Sinking Stone Frigates Part 9

South African roads were bad enough to overcome a G-Wagen's suspension and hurt Liam's back. That was what he knew so far today, 3 hours into his adventure. At last they turned off the main road onto a gravel road.

To drive up to an airstrip, with some sort of a Cesna-type high-wing airplane on the runway. Flying hadn't been part of his plan for today. He was let into a little office hut, and frisked. Phone, wallet, keys, passport and his printed presentation documents, all went into a metal lockbox, to which he was handed the key, which was a nice gesture. The box was put in another, larger box, and he was sent into an ajoining room, and told to change.

This room was full of random clothes, a fair selection, all for men. He picked through and got a decent outfit together, including matchingish khaki trousers and jacket, a white shirt, and black Nikes. His belt was a plastic clippy job. Streich seemed to be a bit paranoid. Probably not a bad move, given his business.

He came out changed, with his old clothes in a plastic tub provided for the purpose. They were loading the metal box into the hold of the plane as he came out. He was ordered up into the back, and the driver of the G-wagen got in beside him. A pilot ambled out of another little building and jumped in the front. He glanced at the gauges and made a face, pulled the door shut and pushed the starter button.

One hair-raising takeoff later, they were cruising through the sky to wherever Streich called home. Liam relaxed. Probably this would be better than dealing with Malaysians.

Also, spy work was certainly not as sexy as it looked in films. His back was sore.

Looking out, it seemed to be Africa down there. Not many roads or big buildings.

A while later they started to descend. The landing was not a lot of fun, but the runway was actually fairly good, and it was smoothish once they were down, and not a strip of bits of plane smeared across the landscape.

Once they were down, they taxied along to a hangar and came to a stop just outside. Within was a twin engine transport, and a lot of boxes. The boxes probably didn't contain cookies.
